Diary 2
Diary
Later on I noticed she is deaf. I hoped that she could hear on one side, but after an examination by the veterinarian in Sint‑Truiden (Geert Vandersteegen) she appeared to be deaf on both sides. First I was angry, later I was only hurt. I have contacted the seller again. First she didn’t want to know about a trade, which I couldn’t understand. But later on I could exchange her for a cat that could hear.
When I asked what would happen to Trixie, I didn’t get an answer. And after that I didn’t want to know because I quickly became attached to her. So I couldn’t let her go anymore. It was all a matter of principle.
Believe me a deaf cat can scream even louder than a child. When she woke up in the middle of the night in a strange environment and she didn’t see anyone, she started to scream really loud, waking everyone else. And you couldn’t call her because she didn’t hear you.

So I always kept her close.
She quickly learned that when she didn’t saw me and started to scream, I would come to her.
When she saw me she quickly came to me and started to purr. Pukkie and Mintje couldn’t stand the screaming and Tom only came home when the weather was bad. And during the summer Tom only came home to eat and to sleep.
So at night Trixie slept in her basket next to my bed.
It has been quite an adjustment. Now she knows what she can and can’t do. She looks to the expression of your face and to the gestures you make with your hands. She still screams but not that often. No matter how sweet she is, she never became a lap cat and a litter was out of the question.
When she was on heat she was driving us up the walls. She screamed all the time. When that period was over I brought her on a Monday evening to Geert Vandersteegen and his college P. Michielsen for a sterilisation. She would stay there for the night and go into surgery the next morning. But before it came to that she escaped from her cage to explore the practice, triggering the alarm in the process.
I had warned them that my door knocks were put upwards, else madam (that’s how we call her) gets the door open. That has never happened at their practice before. Yeah right I said! But Trixie is no ordinary cat.

She has grown up as a nice beautiful lady who likes helping you.
